Expectations: To be honest, the initial promos of the film have done reasonably well. The film has everything – a fresh star cast, relatively lesser known lyricists, and above all, a highly underrated yet talented music composer in the form of Ram Sampath. Although the film is expected to do well, the expectations are minimal. The same can be said about the music album of the film too. However considering the genre of the film and presence of Ram Sampath as the music director (Delhi Belly, Fukrey, Bhoothnath Returns etc. ) you can be assured of a decent album which will be liked by many, if not all.

The Truth: The album consists of six tracks. As was expected, it’s a reasonably good album once you consider the nature and setting of the film. The lyrics as well as music is likeable. There are a couple of tracks which are sure to win you over and have got everything to become hit with the masses in the days to come. With Purani Jeans, Ram Sampath again proves his mettle and carries on the good work.

Top Picks:

  • Dil Aaj Kal: Quite easily the pick of the lot, a quintessential romantic number sung superbly by one of the Bollywood’s most loved singer, KK. Many of the fans who were desperately waiting for a KK song are surely gonna love this beautiful track which has everything going in its favour. The lyrics are first rate, the tune is soothing but what really stands out is KK’s flawless singing. Sometimes you just wonder why KK doesn’t sing more often these days! All in all a beautiful track which is a sure shot winner. . .

  • Jind Meriye: Another beauty of a track from Ram Sampath this time sung by Navraj Hans who seems to possess a very heart-touching voice. The song has lots of soul and is sure to work wonders in the context of the film if used well. The lyrics again are of top quality and so is the tune. Ram Sampath as the music director is spot on with the selection of singer and lyricist here and really deserves a pat on the back.

  • Yeh Beetey Din: Yet another impressive track sung by Ram Sampath himself. Giving him company behind the mics is Munna Dhiman who is also the lyricist here. As the name suggests, the song is all about remembering those wonderful moments of the past with your pals. Ram Sampath as the singer ( best known for DK Bose, Rabba etc) too is equally good and impresses once again. The other version of the song, i. e. acoustic, too is decent and definitely deserves to be heard.

Hard Talk: Well, the album is exactly what we had expected to be like. So there aren’t many things to talk here. However, a much bigger and better album would have definitely given the film some much-needed push. That particular track ‘Out of Control ‘ by Mika is strictly average. Sure it is catchy, but doesn’t really have that characteristic Mika charm that we are accustomed to. All said and done, it however is a decent album and is sure to be liked by the music buffs for its innocence and freshness quotient.

Final Verdict: Overall, the soundtrack on offer is fresh, light-hearted and youth-friendly. It might not set the music charts on fire but there is no denying the fact that in the context of the film, it is a reasonably good album.
