Yaan is an upcoming action entertainer starring Jiiva and Thulasi Nair in the lead. The film will mark the directional debut of popular cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran under the production of RS Infotainment. Music is by Harris Jayaraj.
A feel good track with heavy influence of reggae opens the album with good vocal rendition by Devan Ekambaram. The guitar hook gives the right ambience throughout the track. The lyrics are peculiar with a storytelling kind of presentation. The rhythm is groovy and orchestration is done competently.
Gaana Bala delivers his best yet again with his raw yet melodious vocals in this kuthu-rap mashup. The track doesn’t sound like a typical Harris Jayaraj number but it starts growing on the listener as it progresses. The interludes are essentially electronica but the rap section is passable at best.
The heavy usage of electronica and techno sounds work well with mellowed voices of Arjun and Chinmayi. The guitar touches are funky and usage of Sitar in between marks a good fusion move. The typical usage of chorus in Harris Jayaraj compositions is clearly evident in this track.
A sweet sounding ballad in Unnikrishnan’s flawless voice in the midst of lilting guitar and mellowed rhythm. The track is well composed creating a soothing ambience for the listener. Chinmayi marks her own presence as the track progresses by.The acoustic guitar flourishes are an asset to the tune.
A trance based track having an irresistible carnatic touch brings the soundtrack to a close. KK is at his confident best in this challenging track and Bombay Jayashri fits well in the midst of western orchestration. Ramya NSK joins in with the Arabic chants with equal competence. The interludes are done with fresh approach towards trance orchestration.
