Kochadaiiyaan takes a bumper opening Kochadaiiyaan takes a bumper opening

Cast: Rajinikanth, R. Sarathkumar, Aadhi, Deepika Padukone
Direction: Soundarya R. Ashwin
Genre: Action
Duration: 2 hours 40 minutes

Kochadaiiyaan also boasts of several talented names such as Shobana and Sarath Kumar. Both of them leave an impression in brief roles. Aadhi does well. Amitabh Bachchan’s baritone voice at the start gives the film the right momentum. The soundtrack by maestro A.R. Rahman is seeped in originality, but the non-popularity of songs go against them. Having said that, the powerful background score compliment the visuals on screen.

On the whole, the absorbing screenplay and the technology makes Kochadaiiyaan an interesting fare. For the legion of Rajinikanth fans, this film is definitely worth a watch. Recommended..

Kochadaiiyaan is not the work of an amateur and I give Soundarya the credit for trying her hand in something so mid boggling as well as dangerous. The mere look at one of the exquisite war sequences convey the magnitude of her imagination, but the translation of the same into celluloid was half baked. Despite the story having a soul to it, the animation discrepancies suck it out from the film.

Kochadaiiyaan—the mighty ruler is shown to be a true lord Shiva devout and the tandava performed by him leaves you spellbound. The drums and other musical instruments used to make `tandava` a high point of the film proves to be a successful one. The victory of good over bad is perfectly highlighted in the screenplay. Apart from big names in the 3D film, it is also very important to give perfect costumes to such characters on screen. Famous designer Neeta Lulla specially crafted a well-thought dressing pattern for each and every character. The film however, does give out in the end that there is more to come and it remains to be continued. Speculations are rife that Rajini`s `Rana` might be touted as a sequel to Kochadaiiyaan. After watching a folklore turned into a 3D computer-animated photorealistic motion picture format, all we cans say is—this is a tribute to Thalaiva…….
