FIR against Ramdev for hurting Sikh Sentiments
Jalandhar: Ramdev has landed in another controversy. An FIR has been registered against Ramdev for hurting religious sentiments of Sikhs during his yoga camp held at Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda district in November 2011.
A picture that has gone viralon social media in which Ramdev sitting on the stage, with a picture of Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru, kept near his feet during the camp.The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has slammed Ramdev for showing disrespect to Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji by placing the Guru Sahib’s photo near his feet during a yoga camp at Talwandi Sabo three years ago.In a statement issued on Monday, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said that Ramdev should issue an apology to the Sikh Qaum for this act.
“If a person like you does not know what respect and reverence is to be shown to a photograph or portrait of a Guru Sahib or a saint, then what type of ‘yoga gyan’ are you going to impart to others,” he questioned Ramdev. Makkar said Ramdev had always remained controversial.
Makkar sought to convey to him that while Sikhs respected all religions, they would not tolerate insults to their Guru Sahiban.
“Sikhs the world over are angry, so it is better that you tender an apology immediately,” Makkar advised Ramdev.
Meanwhile, there was no reaction from the Akal Takht so far despite the matter having come to jathedar Gurbachan Singh’s notice.
Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Mal Singh has slammed Ramdev for showing disrespect to Guru Gobind Singh during a yoga camp at Talwandi Sabo.
Giani Mal Singh said Ramdev’s action had hurt sentiments of Sikhs, for which he needs to apologise otherwise Sikh Qaum will not forgive him if he failed to tender an apology.
