Expectations: Talking about the expectations, going by the promos of the film which suggests that the movie is some sort of thriller, one expects a decent album strictly as per the mood and setting of the film. Table No 21 is one such film that instantly comes to the mind when you talk of a suspense thriller and one expects a similar soundtrack this time around too. However, with Mithoon and Ankit Tiwari on the board it won’t be much of a surprise if we get a bigger and better album.

The Truth: Well, well, well! It’s a six track album including a theme track, Mithoon as usual is bang on target and delivers two beautiful songs here while Ankit Tiwari with four highly likeable tracks adds enough steel to the album. The lyricists Sanjay Masoom, Sandeep Nath(Sunn Raha Hai Na fame), Gopal Datt and Mithoon himself too have contributed heavily. Almost each track is enjoyable and highly engaging and that is what makes it an album to look forward to. In short, the album pleasantly surprises you what it has to offer. A job Well done, Mithoon and Ankit!

Top Picks:

Shukr Tera: Ah, what a song! A perfect romantic number which keeps flowing like a flawless poetry. Chinmayi clearly has one of the sweetest voices in the Indian music industry right now and that is what is the hallmark of this peach of a song. After the super success of Mai Rang Sharbaton Ka, Titli and Zehnaseeb, she steals the show yet again. And if that wasn’t enough, you have Arijit Singh too singing a full stanza which only adds more substance to this already beautiful track. The lyrics by Mithoon are superb and so is the tune which is pleasing to the ears and nerve-soothing. Expect this song to scorch the music charts in the coming days. Exceptional!

Tequila Wakila: A foot-tapping club/party number which to be honest, doesn’t really start spectacularly but once Shreya and Ankit Tiwari take over, one cannot help shaking a leg. To be fair, it is a bit unusual genre for both the singers but kudos to the pair for pulling it off with such élan. The singing by the duo is one thing that clearly stands out. The lyrics by Sanjay Masoom are good and music (which is near- perfect for this particular song) gives some adrenaline rush. All in all, a rocking track which should do well with the masses.

O Humnavaa: Another version of Shukr Tera with additional vocalists being Gajendra Verma (best known for Mann Mera from Table No 21) and Mithoon while Chinmayi is the constant factor. The song starts with some melodious singing from Gajendra and then you have Chinmayi and Mithoon taking it to a different level altogether. Some fabulous singing by the trio makes this song extremely likeable and this is one song which you can proudly dedicate to your close buddies as love and friendship is what this song is all about. The lyrics are top notch and so is the music. In a word, Magical!

Also must try: Sawaalon Mein, Samrat Theme

Hard Talk: Since we have already got much more than one would have asked for, there aren’t many things to talk about here. However, it would be interesting to see how they use such lovely tracks in the film which is some kind of suspense thriller. Although both the music directors have done a commendable job, it is Mithoon who walks away with the cake. But it must be added that it is Ankit Tiwari whose compositions add an element of mystery (much needed ) with the title track as well as the Samrat theme song. Although that duet ‘Sawaalon Mein’ by Shreya Ghoshal and Ankit is likeable one just get a feeling that it might go down a bit unnoticed.

Final Verdict: Well, although we were expecting just a decent album from the highly talented Mithoon and Ankit Tiwari, we are pleasantly surprised with the album they have come up for Samrat And Co. The album has lots of soul, is refreshing and above all, it is sure to work well with the music lovers. It won’t be out of context to add that the music album is going to help the film in a big way.
