Ali Abbas Zafar made hit ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ and now he is back with unapologetic entertainer in 70′s style ‘Gunday’ starring current heartthrob Ranveer Singh with Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.
Film has got wide release and has huge expectations.
To start with, film has nothing new to offer in terms of script and treatment. Two orphans in 70′s during India – Pakistan war and formation of Bangladesh.
Bikram (Ranveer) and Bala (Arjun) start coal smuggling and then rule Kolkata in almost every trade.
Then comes love interest Nandita (Priyanka Chopra) who becomes cause of rift between their friendship.
But then many moles of police in gangs of ‘Gunday‘ and how ACP Sarkar (Irrfan) combat them forms the rest of the story.
Performance wise Ranveer Singh is growing in stature with every film and delivers once again perfect performance.
Be it his dialogue delivery or dance, he is bang on! Arjun Kapoor is good in intense shot but he still remains single emotion actor.
Priyanka Chopra is good and looks fab throughout. Irrfan Khan does his job well but he has nothing new to offer.
He almost getting in zone of Pran from 70′s. Saurabh Shukla and other supporting cast pitch in well.
Music is good and Sohail Sen delivers two hit tracks in ‘Tune Maari’ and Title track. But too many songs start irritating a bit especially in 2nd half.
Editing is uneven and too many running shots bore hell out of you.
So is background score which goes on and on. But excellent cinematography by Aseem lifts the film several notches.
Screenplay and story are routine but good dialogues work as refreshment.
Director Ali Abbas celebrates 70′s cinema in grand style and provides wholesome entertainment. Director grows in stature with this one big time!
Film will release around 2800 screens today and will do great business especially in single screens.
Film has good chances to score at box office big time.
